What is the Enneagram Personality Test?

The Enneagram personality test is based on the personality framework created by O. Ichazo and C. Naranjo. It illustrates nine personality types within a nine-pointed diagram, explaining the fundamental beliefs and perspectives that shape each individual.

The Enneagram is a personality-checking system that describes human behaviour and motivations. It's based on nine different personality types, each representing a distinct way of thinking, feeling, and acting. The Enneagram Personality Test is like a map that helps us understand different kinds of personalities. It splits people into nine main types, each with its own set of traits and things they fear or desire the most.

As with the majority of personality tests, the Enneagram assessment isn't just about categorizing personalities, it's also a tool for personal development and understanding relationships. It helps individuals recognize their way of thinking, feeling, and behaving, improving self-awareness for personal growth and better communication with others. The Enneagram test describes how each type can manifest at different levels of psychological health. It delineates nine levels, from healthy to unhealthy expressions of a type, offering a roadmap for personal growth. What makes the Enneagram special is that it's not fixed. When you understand your type, it opens a path for personal development. You can learn how to navigate challenges better and improve relationships by understanding how different types might see things differently.

This test looks at why we do things, not just what we do. It shows how our fears and desires shape our actions and thoughts. It's different from other tests because it focuses on what's inside our minds and hearts.

The most interesting point in the Enneagram test is that these types are often represented as points on a geometric figure called the Enneagram.

Enneagram Nine Types

In the upcoming sections, we will talk about each of the nine enneagram types separately, so that by passing the enneagram quiz you will easily understand your personality.

What are the Nine Enneagram types?

The Enneagram shows nine different kinds of personalities on a diagram with nine points. This helps us see how these personalities are connected to each other.

Now let's dive into the deep understanding of the nine enneagram types.

The Reformer (Perfectionist)

This type of person is driven by a strong inner critic. They have a profound sense of right and wrong. They aim for perfection, holding high standards for themselves and others. They are principled, organized, and responsible, often striving to improve themselves and the world around them. However, they can become critical when things don't meet their expectations.

The Helper (Giver)

Type Twos are empathetic, caring, and nurturing individuals who thrive on helping others. They are generous and self-sacrificing, often putting others' needs before their own. Their fear of being unwanted drives their actions, leading them to seek validation through their acts of kindness. They can struggle when their own needs are neglected.

The Achiever (Performer)

Highly focused on success and achievement, they are driven, and adaptable. This type of person is an ambitious, goal-oriented individual who excels in various fields. Their fear of failure and desire for recognition helps them to work toward their goals.

The Individualist (Artist)

Fours are sensitive, and deeply in touch with their emotions. They long for authenticity and depth, often feeling different or misunderstood. They often express themselves through creativity and self-expression. However, their focus on individuality can lead to feelings of melancholy and self-absorption.

The Investigator (Thinker)

Intensely curious and perceptive, Fives are self-contained individuals. They seek knowledge and understanding, often withdrawing into their thoughts and observations. They conserve their energy by limiting social interactions and prioritizing their intellectual pursuits. However, this withdrawal can sometimes lead to isolation and detachment from their emotions.

The Loyalist (Skeptic)

Sixes are responsible, loyal, and seek security in a chaotic world. They often anticipate problems, seeking guidance and support from trusted sources. They can move between loyalty and scepticism, sometimes feeling anxiety and a fear of uncertainty or authority.

The Enthusiast (Epicure)

Type Sevens are adventurous, spontaneous, and fun-loving. They have a fear of being limited or in pain, so they seek new experiences and possibilities to keep life exciting and avoid negative emotions. They are optimistic, but their avoidance of discomfort can lead to impulsiveness and a lack of follow-through on commitments.

The Challenger (Leader)

Assertive and self-confident, Eights are strong and protective individuals who value control and autonomy. They fear vulnerability and strive to avoid being controlled by others. They advocate for justice.

The Peacemaker (Mediator)

Nines are easygoing, agreeable, and seek harmony in their environment. They often merge with others' perspectives to maintain peace and avoid conflict. They fear the loss of connection and inner and outer harmony, often leading them to neglect their own needs and opinions in favour of maintaining tranquillity.

As mentioned previously, these types are key for you to understand who you are and your worldview.

How to Find Your Enneagram Type

Discovering your Enneagram type involves self-reflection, observation, and understanding certain patterns of behaviour, motivations, fears, and desires that resonate with you. Getting an Enneagram type from a test result is a good starting point, but it's important to remember that tests aren't always 100% accurate. However, they can offer insight and a direction for further exploration.

Although the Enneagram structure may look a little bit difficult, it is way too simple. An Enneagram chart typically consists of a circle with nine points representing different personality types. Each point is assigned a number from 1 to 9, and these numbers correspond to specific personality traits and tendencies. The chart illustrates the connections and relationships between these types.

Enneagram Test Types

The circle represents the interconnections of the nine personality types. It's often divided into three segments, each containing three points. The nine points on the circle represent the nine Enneagram types, labeled from 1 to 9. Each type has its own motivations, fears, desires, and behavioural patterns. The lines on the Enneagram chart indicate connections between different types.

The lines in the Enneagram test help illustrate how individuals might move along the Enneagram in times of stress or growth. For example, type 1 might integrate toward the positive traits of type 7 when healthy and disintegrate toward the negative traits of type 4 when stressed.

Beyond just the lines, the Enneagram also looks at the dynamics between types, the core fears and desires, and how these play out in various situations.

Reading an Enneagram chart involves understanding not just the basic traits of each type but also how they interrelate, and influence one another, and how individuals might manifest traits from neighbouring types or move along the lines in times of stress or growth.

On the Enneagram chart, the connections between various types are represented by arrows. Each Enneagram type exhibits two lines extending from its point, diverging in opposite directions. These arrows indicate the specific personality traits you might adopt in response to stress.

On the internet, you can find various sources that provide you with the ability to pass an Enneagram test and check which type you are. There are free sources and paid quizzes as well. Each of them includes questions, that can easily identify your worldview and help you improve your weak points if needed.
